Menjangan Island

Menjangan Island is a small island located off the northwest coast of Bali. This island is part of the West Bali National Park’s protected marine reserve. Menjangan Island is surrounded by hectares of stunning coral reef gardens with a complex biological ecosystem, making it a popular snorkelling and diving destination.

Locals and tourists who want to dive for fish and coral reef exploration flock to the south side of Menjangan. In addition to the variety of coral species, this island is frequented by a variety of tropical fish, seagulls, and shorebirds.

Things To Know Before Visit Menjangan Island

Called Menjangan Island Bali because many deer animals live on this island. Menjangan in Javanese means Deer, that’s where the origin of the name Menjangan Island was coined. While on this island, if you’re lucky you can see deer up close, but you also need to be careful and don’t disturb their habitat.


To visit Menjangan Island, you need a permit and a park guide which can be arranged with most tour operators or hotels in the Pemuteran Beach area. It can also be obtained at the park office in Labuhan Lalang.

We recommend spending a day or two exploring some of the natural and cultural gems that West Bali has to offer.

Although the island of Menjangan Bali is a small island, there are many activities that can be done here. The first thing to do is snorkel. If you want to snorkel there are 2 spots that you can choose.

The first spot is located near the pier and close to the beach. When swimming on the edge you will see a few types of fish. But when you swim to the middle, you can see colorful coral reefs and more types of fish.

Then the second spot is near the cliff and you don’t need to dock at the pier. This spot is no less beautiful than the first spot. But for those of you who don’t want to snorkel, this second spot is suitable as an option to see the underwater world. From the top of the cliff you can see coral reefs and fish without having to get wet because the water is very clear.

The next thing you can do here is diving. There are 3 spots that you can choose to do diving activities. First is the Anchor Wreck, a diving spot for those who are already professionals. Uniquely in this place you can find the wreck of a Dutch ship that sank in the 19th century.

The second spot is Eel Gardens which is a favorite diving area because of its beautiful underwater scenery, filled with garen eels and sea fans. While the third spot is Secret Bay, specifically for macro diving enthusiasts. This dive spot is still very natural and the sea is shallow filled with various types of coral reefs in it.

The location of Menjangan Island is to the east of West Bali National Park, to be precise at Sumber Klampok, Gerokgak, Buleleng Regency, Bali 81155.

Menjangan Island is an island separated from the island of Bali, so to get here you have to cross by boat. The following is the route to Menjangan Island:

The route you can take is by boat or motor boat from Labuan Lalang and Pemuteran at a cost of around IDR 300,000-IDR 400,000.
But we recommend taking a day tour because it usually includes PP transportation and you don’t have to bother looking for transportation on Menjangan Island.
